POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT – Director – Alliance Française d’Islamabad (AFI)
Founded in 1971, the Alliance Française d’Islamabad (AFI) is recruiting its next Director, with an expected start date in November 2025.
AFI is a non-profit cultural and educational institution whose mission is to promote the French language and culture, foster Franco-Pakistani dialogue, and strengthen academic, scientific, and artistic exchanges. It operates under a Board of Directors, in close collaboration with the French Embassy in Pakistan and the national coordination of the Alliances Françaises of Pakistan.
AFI delivers French-language training for all audiences (on-site and off-site), organizes a dynamic year-round cultural program, and provides translation services. Its team consists of six administrative staff, four technical and support staff, and a faculty of French teachers.
The Director will be responsible for the strategic, operational, and financial management of the institution, ensuring its sustainable development and visibility within Pakistan’s cultural and academic landscape.
Main duties
The Director defines and implements the strategic plan for the Alliance Française Islamabad under the authority of the Board of Directors, coordinating with the Fondation des Alliances Françaises and the French Embassy through the National Coordinator.
He/she oversees all administrative, financial, and legal operations and ensures transparent reporting to the Board.
The Director leads, motivates, and develops a multidisciplinary team of administrative, teaching, and cultural staff.
In collaboration with the Deputy Director, he/she expands French courses and related activities to guarantee AFI’s financial sustainability and growth.
He/she builds and maintains strong partnerships with local, educational, cultural, and private institutions.
The Director ensures the academic quality of French language courses and certifications (DELF, DALF), fosters pedagogical innovation, and develops cooperation with schools and universities.
He/she designs and supervises AFI’s annual cultural program with French and Pakistani partners, seeking external funding and sponsorships.
Finally, the Director represents AFI to local authorities, the media, and sponsors, and enhances the institution’s visibility and reputation through effective communication and outreach.
Required profile
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in management, international relations, cultural administration, education, or a related field.
- Minimum B2 level in French and fluent English (C1/C2).
- At least 3–5 years of experience in management or leadership within a cultural, educational, or international organization.
- Strong understanding of the FLE sector, certification frameworks, and project management.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, teams, and partnerships in multicultural contexts.
- Excellent communication, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills.
